Connecting Clevedon on foot, bike and horseback
The Clevedon Association is working alongside Franklin Local Board and local developers to build a connected network of walking, cycling and bridle trails around Clevedon Village.
A Clevedon Trails network was conceived at the very early stages of a growth plan for Clevedon Village when the community expressed support for greater connectivity and for safe walking, cycling and equestrian routes around the Clevedon Village. a network of trails now forms part of the Clevedon Precinct Plan and will be unlocked by developers and Council over the coming years.
Developers are required to build most of these trails as they develop their land. Some good progress has been made, with small links and longer out-and-back trails now available as part of Conmara, Clevedon North and Hololio subdivisions, but there is more work to be done, especially to connect these stand-alone trails into the wider network.
Auckland Council is required to build trails on publicly owned land, including within the Clevedon Showgrounds and Te Nikau Pa.
The vision that drives our trail team is a future in which cycling and walking becomes the default method of transport in and about the Village, in particular for regular journeys of children to and from school and sporting and other activities. In total 17km of new trails and footpaths will be constructed.
Beyond the village we are advocating for the extension of these trails north to the Pohutukawa Coast south into the Hūnua Ranges.
