Roundup Spotlight: Clevedon Scouts
Adventure, Connection, Growth
Published in Edition 450, October/November 2026
Scouts Aotearoa encourages young people to take on new challenges, build confidence and develop leadership skills through adventure and hands-on experiences. Our youth members have been making the most of these opportunities, with another action-packed term of activities, camps, fundraising initiatives and giving back to our local community.
Clevedon Cubs have had a cracking Term 3, with engineering as our theme. We bounced our way through a trip to the trampoline park, got up close to helicopters at Ardmore Airport to find out how they actually stay in the air, learned to light fires three ways, and brought the dads along for a Father's Day night. The term wrapped with our engineering challenge - designing, building and testing our own electronic games - and a campfire night of songs, skits and celebrations. The highlight was camp. Twelve intrepid Cubs and a few fearless leaders headed off for an overnight at Ness Valley, in what turned out to be one of the windiest weekends of the year. For some, it was their first night under canvas, and great preparation for our zone camp at Port Waikato later this year. Plenty of fun was had, and plenty of exhausted youth (and leaders) by the end.
Venturers still has enrolment spaces available for young people aged 13–18. Venturers meet most Monday evenings during term time from 6.30–8.30 pm.
Once again, all our sessions and the incredible opportunities that our youth members receive are due to the wonderful volunteers we have providing them. A huge ngā mihi to our kaiārahi; without you, these groups do not exist. If you are interested in volunteering, supporting our activities, or discussing how you could contribute, please email: clevedon@group.scouts.nz.
It is great to see our young people turning up each week with a positive attitude and a willingness to give new activities and challenges a go. Their growing confidence, perseverance, leadership and enthusiasm reflect the strong future of Scouting here in Clevedon.

Ten Scouts from Clevedon are continuing to prepare for the 24th Aotearoa New Zealand Scout Jamboree ’26 at Mystery Creek, Hamilton, in Dec-Jan. This 10-day event will bring Scouts together from across the country for an exciting opportunity to build friendships, develop new skills and take on new adventures. With each Scout working towards raising $2,000 to cover the cost of attending, fundraising continues to be a big part of their preparations. You may spot the Scouts helping out at the Clevedon Agricultural and Pastoral Show in November and the local Santa Parade in December as they continue their fundraising efforts and support our community.
Our Venturer section continues to enjoy the social side of Scouting and will join other Venturer sections from across Tamaki Makaurau as they continue to complete various badgework that draws on several skills, from physically challenging to social-emotional wellbeing and teamwork.
We congratulate James Kelly’s recent acceptance onto the Walsh Memorial Flying School training camp in January 2027. James will join other budding young pilots aged 16-19 to embark on the 60-year-old Scouts Aotearoa’s highest quality aviation training in the country. Over two weeks, he will gain valuable experience and training that in the past has led many students to successful careers in aviation.
