Did you know that the Wairoa River is Auckland’s second largest river? Situated in a broad, low-lying valley, it’s naturally prone to flooding but land use changes, deforestation, the establishment of water reservoirs in the upper reaches of the catchment and climate change have all played a part in changing flood flows.
